- Building on its industry leadership in Application Security, Watchfire's market-leading web application security solution AppScan®, was named the Security category winner for the 17th Annual Jolt Product Excellence Awards. The awards are sponsored by CMP Technology's influential Dr. Dobb's Journal, and recognize the most innovative, trend-making, ahead-of-the-curve products to single out the top solutions that developers should be using today.

The awards were judged by a team of esteemed editors, columnists and forward-thinking gurus. Finalists submitted their product for hands-on evaluation to six separate judges, charged to "look under the hood" at the finalist products, evaluating innovation, quality, productivity, audience suitability, ROI, risk and flexibility. Watchfire was recognized as the Security category winner during an awards ceremony at the Software Development West 2007 Conference and Expo on March 21, 2007. Watchfire's AppScan was selected as the category winner from finalists that included S.P.I. Dynamics, Beyond Security, Fortify Software and Metasploit.

"Recognition as the most innovative security product influencing the development community is tremendous validation for our efforts to make application security scanning a simple, yet highly powerful and effective part of the developer's toolkit," said Peter McKay, president and CEO, Watchfire. "The judging panel assembled by Dr. Dobb's Journal carries real weight as not only experts on the industry trends, but also as technical experts who know how to put products through real-world tests that speak directly to the challenges that developers are dealing with in their daily jobs. It's an honor for AppScan to be chosen as the top security solution."

Winning the Dr. Dobb's Journal Jolt Award continues a powerful trend of industry achievements for Watchfire. Other recent accolades include:

  • Watchfire recognition as the Best Security Company at last month's RSA Conference, sweeping three out of only five total 2007 SC Magazine Excellence Awards.
  • Watchfire named the worldwide market share leader in the application vulnerability assessment software category for the second year in a row by leading IT market research/advisory firm IDC.
  • Watchfire named one of the top 25 innovations by Financial IT Security Magazine in its 2007 "Future Now" list.
  • Selection as a "Top Pick" for 2007 in the ITDefense Product Directory.
  • Software Test and Performance selection of Watchfire as a Finalist for the Testers Choice Awards.
  • SOA Web Services Journal readers chose Watchfire as a finalist for the Best Security Solution in the pending Reader's Choice awards.

"For the past 17 years, the Jolt Awards has recognized those products and technologies that "jolt" the industry with their significance. This year was an exceptionally exciting year for the Jolt Awards since there were so many strong contenders in every category," said Rosalyn Lum, conference manager for Dr. Dobb's Events. "Watchfire's AppScan selection as the winner in the Security category puts it in an elite group of compelling technologies."
