For over 60 years, the Fieldhouse at Munster High School in northwest Indiana has been the backdrop for some of the community’s most memorable athletic moments. When school officials decided it was time to modernize the facility while staying true to its rich history, they turned to Watchfire to help bring that vision to life.

Munster High School selected Watchfire to preserve the arena’s old-school feel while modernizing the venue with LED videoboards, fixed digit scoreboards, digital shot clocks, and basketball goal lights. The Fieldhouse, which houses Mustang boys’ and girls’ basketball, volleyball, wrestling, and other school-related events, was built in 1966 and has remained intact for the past six decades.

Suspended above the arena floor is a four-sided centerhung display featuring two 6′ high by 10′ facing the east and west sides of the venue, along with two fixed digit scoreboards of the same size facing the north and south ends. In addition to displaying time and score information like a traditional scoreboard, the videoboards can be used for crowd prompts, player features, sponsor messaging, and other in-game content. When paired with gameday software such as Watchfire’s Ignite Sports, they also create new opportunities for fan engagement and sponsorship revenue.

Additionally, Munster added digital shot clocks to each basket, which can be used as shot clocks or auxiliary videoboards, and basketball goal lights to wrap around the backboards.

The improvements give spectators enhanced views of game action, player introductions, replays, and event information while creating a more engaging atmosphere for athletes and fans alike. Paired with new bleachers and an upgraded sound system, the additions give the fieldhouse a completely refreshed look and feel.

The upgrades are already generating excitement throughout the community. In an interview with The Times, Munster High School Athletic Director Mike Schultz said, “I think when people come to a game, especially Munster residents, they’re going to be really excited about these upgrades. I think they’re going to have a lot of pride in their school and their community.”
